I have not been active on this group, but I am sad to see it might be shutting down. I read the email list, and see mostly good things happening.

I saw some negative comments about Meetup.com, but, I did not see any detail to explain why.

I live many hours from Toronto so cannot attend meetings frequently, but I would be willing to pay the fee in the interm, until a more appropriate organizer is found.

The only reason I am shutting down the group is that I started it to increase awareness of cap policies and to encourage people to step up as candidates for the party. That has not happened to the extent that I had hoped. Plus I see lots of arguments and knitpicking if someone doesn't agree with an opinion expressed. If someone keeps up this group, I must insist that the name to be changed as there is little CAP discussion going on here.

If I had it to do over again, someone would have to request membership in the meetup group and absolutely must be a member of CAP.

The last straw for me...

Last night, at a screening of Loose Change Final Cut (fantastic, by the way), going to hit the big cinemas in 2008, I heard from a member of this group that Steven Zak has been saying derogatory things about me out there. I don't know exactly what this means, but I'm sure I don't like it. And why? Because I have told him privately, on more than one occasion, to back off attacking people in the group.

I have only met Steven Zak twice in my life. The first time was at a meeting to organize for the SPP summit in the summer. He told me that day he was investigating Dian Nicholson (among others). He didn't even know if I knew who she was. I barely knew Dian at the time, but I didn't like the sound of that.

So now Steven Zak is going around saying derogatory things about me to and likely investigating me. Go ahead Steve, I have nothing to hide.

If I were still the organizer Zak would be removed this instant.

So, Victor, if you want to keep up the group, that's terrific, but not with the same name. I am sorry it has come to this, but I have a lot of things on the go. Do a lot of work for CAP on their executive and helping with communications and the website and facebook. Plus all the other social justice activities I like to attend. Plus my work. I don't have time for nonsense and this is what is happening here and has been for several months.

this group has hardly had a chance to take off and grow. most of the meetups occured while i was at work so i could not attend them. what i really miss already is all of the fantastic emails pouring in from the group members. now i feel like i'm out of the loop. i would be willing to pay the $15 a month also, just to keep people talking and connected.
